in the garage (year 1)

by Riley's Room

supported by

William Wright Riley is a godd*mn national treasure. Eyes in the Dark will likely stand the test of time as one of the seminal works by the garages and their versions of Godspeed and Mike Townsend 3 both move me to tears. I hope they continue to make music for the rest of both our adult lives because they are an imitable voice both poetically and musically Favorite track: unfair deal.
zeccleston
zeccleston thumbnail
zeccleston with one of the most powerful and recognizable voices amongst the garages (an impressive feat considering the sheer number of contributors to the band), riley manages to defy definition as simply a vocalist. their artistic vision is creative and engaging, with number 14 setting the standard for harder genres in the blaseball oeuvre, and unfair deal standing strong in its unique composition and soundscape. a powerhouse of vocals and songwriting, riley is incomparable. Favorite track: best life, best wife.

number 14 04:22
“raise the dead” that’s what they said but we know it’s not so simple, you see when the team completes the dream who will be left unseen? when she passed away those of us who had to stay don’t what she’s seen in the underland so how could we doom one of the band? so watch out we’ll hunt you we’ll find your hidey-hole we’re gonna keep running and running till we take back what you stole but we don’t know what will happen when you’re seen so till then we will try and keep her at number 14 (higher, lower (x8)) number 14 (higher, lower (x8)) is the sun a god? what about the peanut too? when we’ve won this fight, do we fight them too? but for now. we stay for the rest of our lives, we will know the gods are not on our side. who’s side are they on? who’s side are they on? so watch out we’ll hunt you we’ll find your hidey-hole we’re gonna keep running and running till we take back what you stole but we don’t know what will happen when you’re seen so till then we will try and keep her at number 14 (higher, lower (x8)) number 14 (higher, lower (x8)) hope that we’ll see them again in this life or another

unfair deal 03:44
and down they came they served us all our heads on a spike we burnt in flame with nothing left to do except to die that’s when we realised we had an unfair deal seeing us struggle there she sent her lackey squid put up a friendly front and shake their tentacles we did we were alone and scared we signed an unfair deal break away from the lies they are as bad as he was we said we’d fight the gods and we meant all the gods punch squids up in the face tear up the unfair deal

REMEMBERTHEM 04:10
i’ve spent ten years sitting on this floor staring at my note filled door looking for some way to flip you off and I find that every year “nothing wrong, all happy here” so why’d you say that our fates are sealed so give us some way of finding out what we can do, what it’s all about cos I’ve heard whispers on the wind that this ain’t real, it’s for our sins remember those who died in flame if it’s me next, don’t forget my name remember those who are washed away just please make sure it’s not in vain it’s funny how it all goes wrong when nothing’s up, the threat is gone the evil god has had its day unless of course it’s not that fair say what are you doing there? look at how they have their fun so give us some way of finding out what we can do, what it’s all about cos I’ve heard whispers on the wind that this ain’t real, it’s for our sins remember those who died in flame if it’s me next, don’t forget my name remember those who are washed away just please make sure it’s not in vain why are we still burning? Why are we still drowning? (x6) so give us some way of finding out what we can do, what it’s all about cos I’ve heard whispers on the wind that this ain’t real, it’s for our sins so give us some way of finding out what we can do, what it’s all about cos I’ve heard whispers on the wind that this ain’t real, it’s for our sins remember those who died in flame if it’s me next, don’t forget my name remember those who are washed away just please make sure it’s not in vain

i wake up on a rock hard bed sweep the dreams out from in my head and hold her in my mind i’m running late, need to see my team another zombie, not the first they’ve seen this place seems to attract my kind i get my head in they see my problem that she’s all that I’ve got left and now I’m oh so lonely but see the nights are holy cause I can pretend that she’s lying on my chest i’ve got the best life, cause I'm living with the best wife, so I’ll keep on holding on even if it hurts a bit, in the places that the sharks have hit, I’ll keep her as number one everyone I knew moved right along in the twenty years that I’ve been gone it’s not their fault, I know she’s all that’s left in this crazy world she’s been through shit that no one’s ever heard a good life is what she’s owed it’s messed up I know it’s all I’ve got though so I’ll just keep giving my best because I’m oh so lonely but see the nights are holy cause I can pretend that she’s lying on my chest i’ve got the best life, cause I'm living with the best wife, so I’ll keep on holding on even if it hurts a bit, in the places that the sharks have hit, I’ll keep her as number one a fire is burning somewhere that I thought went out long ago it’s not fucking fair but now’s my time to go i can see the sun going out i think we both know what that means it’s fine my love, I’ll be alright just know you gave me the best life you’ve been the best wife

about

i did my first garages track the week before I left for my first year of uni. now I'm about to go home for the summer, it feels like a nice bookend on this chapter.

(some of these were actually recorded in a garage *cough*number 14*cough*)

there are some other songs i did during this year, but i wanted to focus on songs i wrote, so no covers or other people's songs that i did vocals for here, although i'm still very proud of all of them too
